ERYTHRITOL INCREASES RISK OF THROMBOSIS

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: ERYTHRITOL

Erythritol has been fully eliminated from all products at the Keto Grill & Bakery due to a growing body of evidence showing a causal link between consuming erythritol and thrombosis. Thrombosis is the formation of a blood clot within a blood vessel, which can obstruct blood flow and lead to complications such as stroke or heart attack. Erythritol has now been shown in human, animal, and in vitro studies to increase platelet activity, raising the risk of thrombosis and, ultimately, the risk of heart attack and stroke. Prior studies were not conclusive, but a new human study published this month sheds any reasonable doubt: https://www.ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/ATVBAHA.124.321019.

“Ingestion of a typical quantity of the non-nutritive sweetener erythritol, but not glucose, enhances platelet reactivity in healthy volunteers, raising concerns that erythritol consumption may enhance thrombosis potential. Combined with recent large-scale clinical observational studies and mechanistic cell-based and animal model studies, the present findings suggest that discussion of whether erythritol should be reevaluated as a food additive with the Generally Recognized as Safe designation is warranted.”

As many of our customers are older and are already very likely to have advanced atherosclerosis, we have completely terminated all use of erythritol in every product we sell. Our new sweetener combinations will use the following ingredients moving forward: chicory root fiber (inulin) and pure monk fruit.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Most supposed monk fruit on the market is mostly erythritol with a tiny amount of monk fruit added to it. This is largely a marketing tactic. We do not use these. We only use pure monk fruit. Monk fruit powder you buy at Costco or the grocery store is mostly erythritol. Pure monk fruit can be purchased online in liquid form and is 200 times sweeter than sugar.
